U-GUYS from the basement to the internet

If you're like me you have a bunch of old media around the house like cassette tapes, VHS tapes, etc. that you would love to post online to share with your family and friends.  This is the first batch of songs I archived from the mid-1990's U-GUYS band media, mostly cassette tapes .. yes, that means analog dudes!  Songs were originally recorded on a Fostex 260 4-track recorder-mixer that used a special head to record up to four tracks at the same time.  Just like the Beatles huh? Songs were then mastered, sometimes with a live overdub or solo, onto a home cassette deck.  To get them online I used a simple 1/8 inch audio line from the cassette player to my HP Media Centre PC audio card.  To get the best signal I used a KOSS brand cable with gold-plated connectors.  Fifteen years later and the master cassettes are still in good shape but there has always been hiss and hum on the tracks.  To clean them I used Roxio Sound Editor software that comes with the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD hardware - it has a great group of powerful tools including Clean and Equalizer.  I also used the Record Audio function in the software.  It has the essential recording level and optional track detection functions.  I elected to record a whole side of the cassette first and then splice it up, saving individual projects to edit the different songs.
